The four pedestals in our lobby represent the pre-World War I history of the regiments that would become the 1st Division. They illustrate changes to soldiers’ uniforms and weapons from the Revolutionary War through the 1916 Mexican Punitive Expedition.
They include a Revolutionary War cannoneer from Alexander Hamilton’s
battery—now the 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery—the oldest unit serving
in the US Army; a Civil War soldier from the 4th US Cavalry; a soldier
from the 18th Infantry Regiment during the Philippine Insurrection; and a
16th Infantry Regiment soldier from the Mexican Punitive Expedition in 1916. (Image at Right)
