July 1, 1942: Advance units of the Division depart New York City on two British transport ships for Liverpool, England, arriving July 13, then goes to Tidworth Barracks, England.

August 2, 1942: The rest of the Division sets sail from New York aboard the ocean liner, The Queen Mary for Glascow, Scotland, arrives August 8 and goes to Tidworth Barracks, England.

October 26, 1942: The 1st Infantry Division leaves Scotland as part of the Central Task Force convoy participating in Operation Torch, the invasion of French North Africa.

November 8-10, 1942: The 1st Infantry Division participates in the capture of Oran, Algeria as part of Operation Torch.

Nov. 19, 1942-Jan. 15, 1943: Divisional units are detached and transferred to other commands in Algeria and Tunisia.
