February 19, 1943: Divisional units in Kasserine Pass, Tunisia encounter a major offensive by the German Afrika Korps.

March 17, 1943: Divisional units are gathered under 1st Infantry Division control and attack, and take Gafsa, Tunisia.

March 21, 1943: The 1st Infantry Division captures El Guettar, Tunisia after heavy fighting.

April 19, 1943: The 1st Infantry Division begins its fight for Beja-Mateur in Tunisia.

May 13, 1943: The 1st Infantry Division begins to move back to Oran, Algeria.

May 16-17, 1943: The First Infantry Division reaches its new bases outside of Oran, Algeria to undergo training for the next operation.

July 8, 1943: The 1st Infantry Division leaves North Africa as part of an invasion fleet in Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily.

July 10, 1943: The 1st Infantry Division lands at Gela, Sicily.

July 11-12, 1943: The Division repulses heavy German attacks and secures the Gela Beachhead.

July 21, 1943: After advancing inland, the 1st Infantry Division captures Enna.

August 6, 1943: The 1st Infantry Division captures Troina, Sicily, the last battle of the Sicily campaign for the division.

November 5, 1943: The 1st Infantry Division arrives back in Liverpool, England. The Division then travels by rail to Dorchester, Dorset.

November 1943-May 1944: The 1st Infantry Division trains in southern England in preparation for Operation Overlord, the invasion of Normandy, France.
